Benjamin's begin as Benjamin Surfboards, building surfboards in Corpus Christi, Texas -- January of 1976. We only built them here for the first 2 years. Sunset Surfboards, Southshore mfg, Hobie, Tom Maxwell and Tim Bessel built Benjamin Surfboards for us over the years. It was early 1980 before we let another label in the door, the first being Local Motion, built at Hobie Surfboards.  Much has been added in 34 years, but there are relationships and associations over the years that STANDOUT.  Here are just a couple from the '80s.

Danny Brawner glassed and later ran Hobie surfboards from the early 60's thru the 80's.  It was Danny we worked up all our Benjamin Surfboards with throughout the 80's decade with Terry Martin shaping.   You could not have found better people or craftsman to build surfboards. Danny accumulated one of the worlds top vintage surfboard collections and has since hosted some of the premiere vintage surfboard auctions in Southern California. FYI Danny was the drummer in the band that made the sound track for the original Endless Summer.

Shawn Stussy.   Before he was ever known for designing caps, THE most copied tshirts, Tom-tom and design collar knits, beach pants and oxford cloth shirts with crazy button alignments, ultimately having a huge influence that repositioned "the industry" and opened the door for lifestyle fashion lines such as Volcom, he was at the top of surfboard designers and shapers in the World (boy would he denigh it), having an international following.
